While India's maritime forces can beat both China and Pakistan in the Indian Ocean region in terms of their capabilities, there is no option but to be ready to give a befitting reply to this emerging new challenge of China-Pakistan in the maritime domain. An official from the Indian Navy says the work is being done in a planned manner to stop the edge of China and Pakistan in the sea. Pakistan had used the sea to send terrorists from boats for the Mumbai attack. Therefore, the Indian Navy wants to keep one career battle group in the East and west to protect the long maritime boundary and trade interests. Ins Vikramaditya, an aircraft carrier purchased from Russia, is already stationed at Karwar (Karnataka) on the western coastline of India. That is why the Indian Navy wants to place INS Vikrant at Visakhapatnam on the eastern coastline of the Eastern Command.
The construction of INS Vikrant began at Cochin Shipyard in February 2009. 26 fighter aircraft and 10 helicopters can be placed in this aircraft carrier. It is a modern aircraft carrier weighing about 40,000 metric tonnes. The aircraft carrier runs four general electric gas turbines on two shafts by giving energy. These gas turbines generate one lakh 10,000 horsepower energy. It is 262 metres (860 ft) long and 60 metres (200 ft) wide. It has been designed to operate MiG-29k and other light combat aircraft. The aircraft carrier will provide anti-submarine combat capability.
Port trials of INS Vikrant have been completed. Is ready to start testing in water (basin test) with systems and equipment by September this year. After completion of all the tests, it is expected to be inducted into the Indian Navy by the end of 2021. After completion of the port test, the basin trial is finally examined whether all the systems in the aircraft carrier are functioning properly and can be unloaded in the sea. This test is the presence of manufacturers of systems and equipment fitted in the vessel. The basin trial was already to be started but the covid was not able to get the presence of the manufacturers, so the basin trials have been delayed.
