Given their passion, Wikipedia in 2016 gave them a laptop and a free internet connection. Since then he hasn't looked back, and he has been curating high-quality cyber content and attending several cyber conferences as a Wikipedia editor.
It is about The Wikipedia editor-turned-Raju Janangar (22) from Karpainter, who is a resident of Thadia, a small village in Jodhpur and is associated with his family in the profession of carpentry.
"The only reason to type these articles on Wikipedia was that I did not find anything about my village in Hindi on its website," Said Janangar. "
"The purpose of contributing on Hindi Wikipedia was to help those who were searching for something for their use in Hindi language," he said. There are many pages in other languages on Wikipedia, although Hindi not much articles are available on Wikipedia, as it should be. "
"So, apart from working as a carpenter for 10-12 hours, when I had the time to use mobile, I started editing and writing Wikipedia pages," said Jangar. I thought that at a time when India is the most spoken language Hindi, this language should also have more information on Wikipedia. "
"The Bosic phone model, with the Samsung S5610, was difficult to type, but I wanted my village information to be shared with people," says Jangar. So I collected the information on my tehsil when I was in class 8 and it was the starting point. "
Janangar is a school dropout who quit education after passing class 10. In 2015, he started writing for Wikipedia as well as a private exam for class XII and then gave his B.A. exam.
The 22-year-old Jangar has edited more than 57,000 edits so far and has written more than 1,800 articles on Wikipedia and has now become an experienced cyber editor.
Raju is currently working for Wiki Healthy, a special project of Wikipedia where he is keeping information about health related articles. At the same time, he has participated in several Wikipedia conferences in India.
He is busy updating cricket information as it is his favourite sport. He said, "I have launched the Wikicricket project in Hindi and have written more than 700 articles on the same. There are very few articles in Hindi on cricket and hence this project is also very important. "
Altogether there are Hindi 34.1 million speaking people, although about 1.4 million pages in Hindi on Wikipedia are available with limited active authors numbering about 1,100. "So, I think we need to work more strongly in this domain," he said. "
